celine trio bag review-1-3

The small Céline Trio bag, where to get it, and lower priced alternatives

When it comes to Céline bags, it’s a little hard to explain what all the fuss is about. The bag designs are ostensibly a lot of digits for very little in terms of design. Perhaps it’s how these simple designs demonstrate the essence of minimalism – the art of doing simple things to perfection – that anyone, and not just the minimalist, cannot help but appreciate.

The Céline factor aside, a small crossbody bag is always a good idea, perfect for weekends and travel, when you need to be hands-free and lightweight. While I’ve heard some criticism of the small capacity of the small Céline Trio, to yours truly, who generally carries no more than a wallet, mobile phone, and keys, the small Céline Trio can almost be called ‘spacious’. The design is as simple as three zipper pouches clipped together, which at once makes it easy and more difficult to find things – I can never figure out which compartment my keys are in!

The only real dissatisfaction I have with the Céline Trio is the relatively low quality of its make for the just over $1000 price tag. The strap is a bit flimsy, and the thin and delicate leather of the body is always a worry in the back of your mind.

However, the sheer versatility and usability of this bag (indeed, of all Céline bags), trumps any of its con’s. The Céline Trio takes me seamlessly from day to night, weighs nothing and, without exaggeration, looks amazing with absolutely everything.

Where to get the Céline Trio Bag

Sadly, the Céline Trio is always in high demand, so it’s very difficult to find! However, pre-loved Céline Trio Bags are always popping up on eBay and consignment. You can also put yourself on the waiting list for a Céline Trio at David Jones. I was on the waiting list for about 4 months, and it cost me $1140. If the David Jones near you don’t stock Céline, you could always call up the Sydney or Melbourne branches and have it mailed to you when it comes in.

Edit December 2015: There’s currently a black Trio available at Beg Borrow or Steal!

Thanks for the review! Although I think craftsmanship is so important for a price tag like this, I don’t think I’d be willing to gamble on the straps. I’d like to see for myself first obviously–but that would be a deal breaker for me. I wouldn’t want to spend this much on for it to break! Seen a similar one in at Country Road too.

Yes, I think I agree with you. While I personal don’t regret buying this at all, I do think anyone else thinking of buying this bag should think about the quality carefully. I’ve seen an exact replica at Witchery too, but it was a few seasons ago so I think it’s already sold out!
