I’ve been in Canberra now for almost two years, and for some reason I’ve never heard of Floriade until now. It’s Canberra’s famous spring festival, mainly showcasing new season flowers, in particular, tulips – thousands upon thousands of tulips. The day festival is free, with general fair related paraphernalia. At night, there are live bands, comedy performances, outdoor movie screenings and cleverly and painstakingly arranged lighting that bring out an almost fantastical quality to the tulip covered gardens. For a Canberra event, I was quite impressed.
I wore: Oversized knitted scarf from mall kiosk; checked shirt from wholesale-dress.net; Jacket by Subtitled from General Pants co; Belt by Country Road and Jeans by CottonOn, both thrifted; Bag from my Mother’s wardrobe.
The flowers in night lighting explode into unexpected shades and colours that are wonderfully juxtaposed against the deep black backdrop of the night sky.
Walking the main path, it hits you just how immense the gardens are. It feels like a sea of flowers.
The night market is full of colour and whimsy. The flavour of the festival is handmade craft and sweets.
One of my best friends from uni days, Casey, came to visit me on his way to travelling the world in the coming year. We had so much fun seeing all the sights and being heckled by comedians.
