Recently there’s been a lot of talk about the potentially harmful effects of wearing fashion contact lenses. As many of my readers are regular circle lens wearers, I wanted to take a step back and talk a bit about eye care. I think the most important thing you can do as a contact lens wearer is keep your eyes hydrated throughout the day. While there are other risks like scratched cornea from defective lenses and infections from improperly cleaned lens, one of the most common problems arising out of contact lens wear is eye damage from oxygen starvation.
Basically, eyes need to be in contact with oxygen at all times to stay healthy. However, when you wear contact lenses, this creates a barrier between your eyes and the air, so normal oxygen absorption is disrupted. To assist in delivering oxygen to the eyes, soft contact lenses are made to retain a high amount of water (hens why they dry out when left out of the solution). The higher the water content, the more oxygen is transmitted to your eyes. That’s why it’s so important to keep your contact lens properly hydrated throughout the day (and to not wear contact lenses for prolonged periods).
There’s of course, also cosmetic reasons why you might want to keep your eye hydrated – reducing blood shots!
But eye care doesn’t have to be bland and boring! While I was living in Japan, I noticed that lots of girls were carrying around the classic square shaped Rohto eye drops, so I was really excited to see that this range was being stocked at http://eyecandylens.com/. Rohto Lycee was designed to appealed to young girls, being totally cute and most recently endorsed by popluar actress Yui Aragaki. If you watch the following video and not immediately assume having these eyedrops will bag you a new ‘ikemen’ boyfriend, then there’s something terribly wrong with you!
So here’s Yui chan with her pretty head on the package. The product packaging promises to make your eyes go all ‘ururu’, which means, I guess, super hydrated!
Lycee eye drops are suitable for use with all types of contact lenses including soft, hard, O2 Optix and disposable!
Taking Rohto Lycee Eye Drops from the box, I can’t help but think how much like candy it looks!
The vial is quite small, not much bigger than an eraser.
Look how cute!!
Rohto makes quite a big deal about its eye drop nozzle design, which they say works at every angle, so you don’t have to make yourself look like a crazy tilting your head back all the way every time you want to put eye drops in. This is also great for those of us who are queasy about putting eye drops in. You literally drop this into the corner of your eye if you wanted to.
And you know how you always get this horrible medicine taste down the back of your throat when you use ey edrops? Well, Rohto Lycee Rewetting Eye Drops are actually flavoured. It’s total genius.
I was so delighted to throw this cute little hard candy vial into my bag. I use this throughout the day when I wear lenses and sometimes when my eyes are feeling tired or dry.
Can you tell how hydrated my eyes are??
If you’re going to take care of your eyes, you might as well do it in style!
