I don’t know what it is, but lengthening mascaras always fall short of their promises. Either they don’t really lengthen, are clumpy or flake like hell, or they weigh your lashes down so they can’t hold a curl. Most of the makeup brands out there seem much more interested in giving people volume than length anyway, but what about us poor short-lashed people, who just have one simple wish, for our lashes to be actually visible! Who’s with me?
Thankfully Jealousness Magic Lash Lengthening Mascara pretty much ticks all the boxes in terms of lengthening for me. Read on to find out why!
Jealousness Magic Lash Lengthening Mascara as far as I’m concerned is a lengthening mascara, as the name suggests. However, it’s curious that the description states that it will give ‘lots of volume’. The sample picture shows that you can get ‘Peach Flower’ eyes.
Jealousness Magic Lash Lengthening Mascara comes in two tubes. One contains lash lengthening fibre, and the other is the mascara.
The tubes are pretty cute, but I can’t help but think they could have made this so much more compact and easy to use if it was just a double sided tube, like L’Oreal Double Extension Ultra-lengthening Mascara for example.
1. Lengthening fibre
The idea of a primer and mascara combination isn’t new. In fact, almost every drug store grand has a version of this. However, there’s something really unique about the Magic Lash Lengthening Mascara.
So here’s the black mascara. It’s your run of the mill volumising type brush which has longer bristles on the outside and shorter ones in the centre, to help pick up all your lashes.
Now here’s the ‘Magic’ part. The fibre tube actually has fibre in it. You can clearly see what appears to be lots of tiny tiny hairs on a brush.
The two step application process is similar to my lash plumping tutorial. First you apply one coat of mascara (in a Z pattern), and before it dries, you dab on the fibre, then you apply a second coat of mascara to seal it. Repeat if needed. Now this sounds simple enough, but it’s actually a bit tricky and takes practice to get right.
You’ll have to resist the urge to apply the fibre as if it’s mascara, even though the brush suggests that you should do it this way. A dabbing motion will give you the most precise application on the tip of your lashes. Also you just want to put a little on at a time, or they’ll just stick to each other. It will take a bit of practice to ‘master’ the application technique.
2. Incredible Length
So here’s the result. It pretty much speaks for itself. You can tell that after 3 coats, my lashes are at up to 50% longer. The length Magic Lash Lengthening Mascara adds is honestly comparable to having lash extensions.
And it works amazingly well on lower lashes!
3. No clumping
What’s uniquely great about this mascara is that it really doesn’t clump. It applies cleanly and evenly to each individual lash.
3. No flaking or smudging
Magic Lash Lengthening Mascara claims to be waterproof. It is, as far as I can tell, when wearing as normal. By the end of the day I don’t notice any flaking or smudging – no panda eye! However, while the mascara might be waterproof, the fibres are not. I notice that as soon as they touch water, they start to lose shape and shed.
4. Really holds curl
Most lengthening or volumising mascaras notoriously weigh lashes down so they don’t hold their curl. What’s the point of having long lashes when they just point downwards and you can’t see them anyway? Jealousness Magic Lash Lengthening Mascara is super light weight. As long as you curl before application (curling after will just cause fibres to fall off), the curl will hold and hold.
5. Easy to remove
Unlike some other lengthening mascaras with primer or fibre, this one is easy to remove with oil based makeup remover.
5. Contains nourishing ingredients
Something unexpected about this product is that it contains nourishing ingredients to keep lashes healthy: Vitamin B, wheat protein, Centalla Aslantica extract and collagen amino acids.
Virtually no volumising effect
While this mascara performs incredibly as a lengthening mascara, it really doesn’t give you the ‘Peach Flower’ eyes it promises. I saw virtually no volumising effect. That said I’m not really that interested in volume anyway. You could of course, use other lash plumping techniques on top to achieve more volume.
I’m definitely loving Jealousness Magic Lengthening Mascara. I’ll even go so far as to say that I prefer it over the reigning Asian lengthening mascara Kiss Me Heroine Make Long & Curl, because Long & Curl Mascara is so impossible to remove!
If you do try Jealousness Magic Lengthening Mascara, I would suggest that you use it at least three or four times before coming to any conclusions. It does take some practice to get used to using the fibre, but when you do, you’ll be rewarded with amazing length without any catches.
