As well as being known for the longest product names second only to Clinique, Korean cosmetics company Etude House is known for their sickeningly sweet product concepts and packaging. Etude House’s Sweet Recipe range is probably the sweetest so far, with all the products being based on some form of candy, desert or pasty. So naturally I was instantly sucked in. Etude House Sweet Recipe Baby Choux Base is a French cream puff themed foundation base that promises to . Read on for my full review!

True to its reputation for super cute product packaging, Sweet Recipe Baby Choux Base comes in an adorable frosted glass tub with the signature Etude House piped design on the lid. It’s an unusual way to package a base makeup product, but I suspect it’s designed to best showcase the consistency of the cream. Baby Choux Base comes in three colours to suit different skin tones: #01 Mint Choux – for red skin tones #02 Berry Choux – for pale skin tones #03 Peach Choux – for ‘dull’ and yellow skin tones The subject of my review is #03 Peach Choux. My first impression of this product is that it resembles foundation or BB cream more than a makeup base. It appears to be reasonably pigmented in a peachy flesh colour. Etude House Sweet Recipe Baby Choux Base really does have the look, feel, and even smell, of thickened, peach flavoured cream. Despite the promotional images for the product featuring Korean pop star Sulli seeming to pipe Baby Choux Base inside puffed pastry, I doubt it tastes as good as it smells. The most notable benefit of Sweet Recipe Baby Choux Base is that it is extremely matte. The moisture is absorbed quickly, leaving a powdery finish. This would be perfect for oily skin to control oil and reduce shine. For dry skin however, it may exacerbate your dry and flaky areas. Baby Choux Base #03 is designed for yellow skin tones. So you may notice in the before and after shots that after applying this base, my skin took on a much cooler, pinkish undertone. While Sweet Recipe Baby Choux Base appears to be pigmented enough to be worn as foundation product on its own, you really do need to apply foundation or BB cream on top for the coverage and an even finish. Here’s my look with Etude House Shini Star Clean BB Lotion. I have not noticed that Baby Choux Base necessarily improved the look or longevity of my BB cream. Baby Choux Base is a really cute product to own, and is great for oily skin, but I think there are a lot of better makeup bases out there, and it does not justify the $14 USD price tag.
