In the lead up to Canberra’s Food & Fashion Market and FASHFST in May, I will be featuring a number of unique Australian designers involved in these events. Canberran designer Gabrielle Everitt only commercialised her creations the end of last year, but her wearable pieces with neutral, soothing colour palettes and clean silhouettes have already been received highly favourably by local fashionistas. Gabrielle’s style is described as ‘women’s fashion with a rustic charm’ and ‘a subtle harmony of vintage and equestrian elements with a cheeky hint of nautical’. When I first came across her styles at her popup shop at the Lonsdale Street Roasters, I strongly felt all of these elements and also that her collection is approachable and straight forward to style. |
Gabrielle’s pastel blue maxi dress with rope detailing is so classic and infinitely feminine. The rope accessory which comes with Gabrielle Everitt’s maxi dress can be worn in so many ways. It can be tied high or low, or the dress can be left to flow freely. I created an empire line by tying it around my bust, giving the skirt so beautiful movement. I couldn’t resist just jumping around in it while taking these photos! I love that the rope ‘belt’ is overly long, and swishes about as you walk. And though this dress appears simple and effortless, looking closely, there is beautifully detailed pleating on the bust that flows through the dress and gives it subtle complexity.
