I love all things 1950’s, especially the men’s fashion of the day – which fits pretty well perfectly with my dress-like-a-man thing right now. I love how they used to wear tailored jackets but then roll up their pant legs, and brogues with everything, and that devil-may-care attitude towards fashion rules (which then of course became the rule). These guys would go get insanely expensive suits made up and then wear them to a rock concert. I guess that’s pretty much normal these days.
This French Connection (why isn’t it FCUK anymore?) tuxedo jacket is one of the oldest things I own. I guess when you buy something that’s really you, you needn’t ever part with it. I feel like a nice oversized blazer is something I’ve always got to have along my adventures, firstly, because I can’t deal with feminine outerwear, and secondly, because you just feel cool when you’re wearing slouchy styles. So of course my prim and proper boyfriend was freaking out that I consistently roll up the sleeves of this wool jacket – apparently so bad for the material? Obviously he won’t have fared well in 1950’s Britain.
And the rest (of this outfit) is, as they say, history.
