I often wonder whether I would choose fashion over food. It’s an unfortunate struggle for a fashion blogger I suppose! Luckily for me, most of the fashion world seems to be obsessed with food too. I can imagine there being that one creative mind working on FASHFEST Canberra who’s been waiting to convince everyone to do a fashion shoot with food inspired makeup and hair. So they went and did it – at last week’s Hustle & Scout Twilight Fashion Markets. With Form Hair, M:Artistry, Next Hair and Dijanna Vrebac Soldo on location, market goers were treated to a live installation of sorts, consisting of, among other curious activities, the weaving of one giant bread crown through one model’s hair, and the donning on another model’s head, a hollowed out watermelon ‘helmet’. Of course, FASHFEST Producer Steve Wright and Co-producer, Nick Ellis were on hand too – don’t they ever get tired?
The connection between fashion and food just makes sense, don’t you think? I mean, we love our toiletries to smell like vanilla cupcakes and grapefruit, and we love it when food is fashionably presented. What about all the desert themed beauty products that everyone goes crazy for, like Clinique Lip Smoothies, Etude House Sweet Recipe Cupcake blush and MAC ‘Candy Yum Yum’ Lippy. So it really a big jump to food inspired makeup and hair.
The amazing final images are up on Canberra Photography, Leighton Hutchinson’s portfolio – check them out here!
The idea behind the food inspired makeup and hair shoot was to showcase Canberra creative talent. Although food inspired makeup won’t be on the Fashfest catwalk 30 April to 3 May, designer fashion will be. Tickets for Fashfest are selling fast: www.fashfest.com.au. The event will be held at the award-winning Canberra Airport. I’ve got all the info about the types of tickets that are on sale (what ever is left of them anyway!). Read about it here.
