The first time I was introduced to neoprene outside of a wetsuit shop was at the They Lied! We Can Fly! runway show at Canberra Fashion Festival 2012. It was the first time I had a serious look at this fabric in a non-water-sport related context, but I couldn’t help but fall in love with it immediately. It’s the curious way neoprene looks so substantial, which reminds you of leather, but unlike leather, it’s so light that it just floats on the body. Of course, after wide appearances on the catwalks in 2013, neoprene has now assimilated as a perfectly sensible fabric replacement for almost every clothing category. Though, I admit I am yet to see a pair of neoprene pants.

I’ll take a risk and say that everyone needs an oversized neoprene jumper. Mine is from Front Row Shop, which is my new favourite destination for ultra chic minimalist styles. It just so happens I also managed to nab myself a Zara neoprene skirt from last season, which gave me the perfect opportunity to tick off one of my fashion to-do’s this year and put together a neoprene on neoprene outfit. The extra plus of an outfit like this is that you’re always water ready. One can never be too prepared.

Neoprene is such a fabulous fabric, the little fabric-nerd inside me is so ridiculously happy that it’s having a moment in the sun. And while skirts and bags are very fun, my preference is for lovely boxy shapes like your stunning blue number. Plus, you know, water ready 😉
