I met Nastia Zaric last year, when I worked with her on a photoshoot with Her Canberra and Lifeline. I was styling, and she was modelling. While I thought that this was a girl that had an extremely promising modelling career, she told me that her real ambition was to design jewellery. It’s the kind of thing people often flippantly say, perhaps, but Nastia struck me as a true creative soul, so it was no surprise to me when ZARIĆ Jewellery was launched some months later. However, nothing from its first collection was what I expected. ZARIĆ Jewellery’s beautiful debut lookbook, shot by the talented Danièle Francesca Martinie, showcased jewellery in a strictly pastel palette, with hand moulded ceramic beading, glitter and holographic coatings and, yes, pompoms. Everything about it exuded ‘coolness’, the kind of coolness you get when something is completely different to what everyone else is doing but somehow just makes sense. I somehow couldn’t think of any better way to describe ZARIĆ Jewellery’s style but ‘pastel teeth‘ – Sounds like one of those profound oxymoron’s.
