FASHFEST is a uniquely Canberran fashion festival and represents what is uniquely Canberran. One aspect of Canberra’s fashion scene is a strong emphasis on sustainable and ethical fashion. For example, it’s about designing with zero waste or using waste to create designs. It’s also about using environmentally friendly and free trade fabrics. The challenges and limitations posed by designing sustainably and ethically gives rise to wonderful innovation. Night 3 of FASHFEST 2014 was all about Canberra’s sustainable designers.

My favourite collections of the night includes Character, which creates wearable statement pieces for the 60 to 85 years age group, Sovata, a label that encompasses both garments and millinery, and Hanny-d, which showed a collection of work and casual wear in a fashion forward colour palette. Zilpah Tart was also a highlight, showing highly wearable apparel and hand bags that could walk straight off the runway, lunch date ready. Tuffys & Tuffetts, Aussie underwear brand, heated up a freezing cold venue with sporty chic men and women’s underwear collections.

Will I see you on closing night, tomorrow? Check if tickets are still available at the FASHFEST website!
