I have been looking forward so much to night 4 of FASHFEST because I knew that the line up included some of Canberra’s most fearless and experimental designers. We went in knowing that while we had no idea what to expect, it was going to be something exciting. Sure enough, the collections at FASHFEST night 4 were full of new and fresh ideas that left me feeling very inspired.
I could see myself wearing so many of the innovative separates at SZN, which were constructed from what looked to be contrasting denim off cuts. The clean and simple shapes are exactly what people want to wear right now. Corr Blimey blew me away this year with what could be their best collection yet. Their range of cool drop crotch jeans and statement jersey sweats were all kinds of cool, and the sculptural accessories took the collections to a whole other level.
Also returning with their second FASHFEST collections were Karen Lee and 4 Minutes 33. I often find myself talking about these labels together, partly because they are jointly stocked at their boutique, Assemblage Project, and partly because they are both labels that make a business out of balancing the highly conceptual and practicality. Karen Lee’s amazing fabric constructions were intricate and, frankly, inexplicable. 4 Minutes 33 introduced brights into their new collection, which was off set by beautifully complex texture and volume.
Also showing on FASHFEST closing night were new comers All Eyes on Us, a women’s evening and occasion wear label, and Hijab House, which produces stylish, modest clothing targeted towards young Muslim women. All Eyes on Us showed a collection of effortlessly glamorous gowns and feminine separates. Hijab House showed us just how good they are at what they do. Their pieces were simple, classic, luxe, and embodied femininity.

[…] Night 4 of FASHFEST was freakishly cold (or perhaps a normal level of cold for Canberra…), so I decided to break out the winter layering early this season with some blazer x cardigan action. I’m not one to zealously adhere to seasonal colour codes, but Staple the Label’s ‘Blue Bayou’ blazer with edgy leather panels is fashionable camouflage for cold days, with an abstract rose print that brings to mind ice sculptures and northern lights. I packed on the insulation with luxe WISH Decide Cardi and kept it simple on the bottom with a pencil skirt, also by Staple the Label – remember this rib mesh number from my Levitation post? […]
