After seeing Winston Wolfe clothing’s fierce leather separates come down the Canon runway show at Sydney Fashion Weekend (styled by blogger Margaret Zhang of Shine by Three), I was irreversibly hooked. My eyes devoured those corseted bustiers, high collar croptops and tailored shorts, made in butter soft lambskin and luxe croc embossed leather (my wallet devoured them some more a couple of hours later). Knowing I’d eventually be writing this post, I was already formulating grammatically tenuous adjectives in my mind: ‘dramatically chic’; ‘darkly youthful’; ‘every-day-avant-garde’.

Winston Wolfe clothing is in a league of its own with its use of leather in absolutely everything and in every way. Their diverse range of leather staples (and not so staples) are so on point, to put it lightly, and push the limits of the material. I loved that each style is reproduced three ways – black and white lambskin and croc embossed. The different materials transform the design into something completely different. In white lambskin, the hard edged pieces become ultra-feminine; the croc embossed leather turn what were draped pieces into structured ones.

Oh, and did I mention that this brand also produces the most amazing shoes?

Having hunted down Winston Wolfe clothing’sstall at Sydney Fashion Weekend, we were pleasantly surprised that the beautiful young lady manning the stall was the designer herself, Kristie Kahler. She allowed us to bend her ear a little about her next collection, which she hinted would include pastel pink leathers. The knees go weak at the thought.

Personally, I think they are a classic autumn/winter staple. Of course, they don’t suit all figures. Personally I need one that’s a bit on the roomy size on the leg, or they just look like gogo shorts with my thighs. These vintage leather shorts were $80 well spent, from Miss Brown Vintage at Sydney Fashion Weekend.
