At times like these I thank my lucky stars for having ended up in miserable cold Canberra, where fabulous winter coats are not just possible, but downright necessary, and where people who own fabulous winter coats donate them to charity shops for me to find. Although I do make that sound a little to easy. In reality finding an on-trend coat at the local opshop is slim pickings (unlike Levi’s jeans). I was just a little bit excited to pick up this vintage camel coat for just $15, just what I’ve been wanting for the longest time. On the down-side it’s too big, at size 14; on the plus-side, it’s size 14, which made it the perfect oversized style. I love a thigh length coat, and this one was just long enough so that you wouldn’t have to wear anything underneath. So I didn’t.

I can’t remember when I got sick of print clashing, colour blocking and shininess. Those things no longer have any place in my current state of mind, which is preoccupied with muted colours, textures and cleanness. A complete polar reversal. I guess, as a closet voyager, I just can’t stay in one place for too long (wasn’t that a Natalie Fertado song?). With my favourite Lilya Atlas knit and its oversized turtle neck and over-long sleeve doubled over, under a camel coat, this outfit pretty much sums up what I love wearing right now.

I honestly don’t think I’ve ever seen someone thrift something before that’s too big for them and yet style it so well that it nails the oversized coat trend perfectly AND looks as though they’ve stepped off the pages of a magazine. Incredible job, well done! 🙂
