I love the old Hollywood idea of wearing nothing but underwear under a coat. The statement is one of a dichotomy of sex appeal and affluence. Your mink fur coat was so expensive that you could be naked underneath and still feel a million bucks. Of course, we happen to be living in an era where underwear can be outerwear, so the impact is lost somewhat. Slip dresses are completely legit street wear these days, especially since Zara Fall 2013, and this one is an iconic piece from that collection.

I always get a bit excited when a piece you missed out on buying last year turns up in this year’s sales. This Zara Slip Dress was always on my list, but, like with a lot of Zara pieces I want to buy, I tend to miss out because I don’t shop retail very often (come on Zara, bring on an Aussie online shop!). When I do buy from last year’s stock though, the scene from Clueless often plays in my mind. You know, when Cher goes: “Oh, those? They’re so last season!” It’s so ridiculous it makes me smile every time. I don’t think I’ll ever be the kind to turn my nose up at previous season pieces. After all, this beautiful navy wool coat is a thrifted piece from who knows how many seasons ago.

Would you buy and wear last season’s clothes?

  1. Zara is finally opening in Perth this week! (A little off topic but I am really excited!!) I would definitely wear last season’s clothes.. To me, it’s not about keeping up with the current season’s trends but more about wearing what you love!!

Yes, I’m seeing more and more Zara things at thrift stores theses days! I think people do tend to buy a lot from Zara and end up having to cull them at the end of the season, which is great for us 😀
