I feel like I’m always seen wearing things that ‘normal’ people wouldn’t wear. Nike Rosheruns with tight leather pants, for example, might seem a little out of context for almost everyone I know. As for my thrifted items for this Thrift of the Week post, a vintage coat a few sizes too large, and a deliciously long and chunky knitted scarf.
I’m often asked two questions about my thrifted coats: how I make coats to large look like they fit perfectly, and how I balance out the proportions. The answer to the first question is simple – remove the shoulder pads and roll up the sleeves. I can’t explain the science of the latter, but it always works amazingly to make huge coat arms look like they were tailored to fit. As for question two, not being one in possession of toothpick thin legs, I have to employ a few tricky tricks. Fitted bottoms help, but cinching the ankles is priority number one. For me, rolling the pants and showing some ankle works wonders. What are your tips on wearing oversized items?
