In 2012, the endless selfies and contact lens reviews were starting to feel a little same-same. I started to read personal style blogs like Fashion Toast and Garry Pepper Girl (when it was still Garry Pepper Vintage), and joined up to Lookbook.nu. The bloggers I was seeing opened my eyes to the fact that we mere mortals could achieve magazine quality photography. I became obsessed with learning to take my own photos with a tripod and remote – self photography. Naturally my personal style at the time was heavily influenced by the punk-kitch style that was popular on Lookbook at the time: skull prints, bright colours and Jeffery Campbell Lita’s (of which I had 5 pairs). Going blonde was, of course, also a prerequisite to being a Lookbook Hipster. But let me tell you, blondes really do have more fun!
Wow the new platform looks amazing (on mobile rn)! Thank you so much for sharing your personal journey to not just your evolving style, but also your character! I am a recent IG follower of yours so I had no prior notion of your previous ‘escapades’!
Thanks so much! Haha yes if you’ve just recently followed me I’m sure it’s a bit surprising to see my old style!
I ABSOLUTELY love your new look and brand. Definitely an inspiration, which, I too am on this new journey to minimalism. It’s cool that we both feel the same. I remember the days when we both were in the gyaru phase! haha that was fun. I’m also in the process of rebranding myself and clearing out my wardrobe to progress to the new lifestyle.
Haha yes the good old days!! Maybe going minimal is a trend with us former gyaru. We blinged ourselves out too much and now we’ve going the complete opposite direction hehe. I’m sure we’ll continue to inspire each other in building that minimalist lifestyle!
Love, love, love, love the story!!! It is really well written! I loved the captions on your photos too- the rainbow pants and flag jumper were pretty amazing!
So excited for the new site, it looks great and so my dear, do you! Yay for no heavy makeup or skin tight uncomfortable dresses! Amen!

Thanks so much for taking the time to read this my love! As we are always talking about I think these days people don’t ‘read’ blog anymore, and the best you can hope for is they will look at the pictures for half a second! You know, after I decided to ditch my crazy style I tried selling all my old clothes off at markets and things, and they were all bought by teenagers. That really gave me a wakeup call!
Okay, but I’m not sure I like the new name. Maybe it’ll grow on me. Maybe I’m just a cranky old man. 🙂
Haha really? Always thought the old name was a bit random!
Yay! I can’t wait to read everything! xx
Thanks for coming over to my new webpage, girl!
Just want to say I love your story! Wasn’t following you before so had no idea of your ‘style background’, what a great journey it must be to be able to get to where you are now. You have great style and can’t wait to see more stories from you! 🙂
Thank you so much for reading, and becoming a follower :)! I know a lot of bloggers tend to delete their older posts because they are embarrassed of them, but I think it’s always interesting to look back and see how we became who we are!
