Perth designer boutique Dilettante’s new look and more affordable collections
Since January this year, Perth’s exclusive concept boutique Dilettante has been closed while undergoing a veritable metamorphosis. Yours truly was honoured to be invited along for its relaunch.
Where the old Dilettante Perth was brooding and romantic, the new look is light and modern. The deep natural brick walls and dimmed lighting have given way to a flood of illumination and space.
Dilettante, which started with owner, Diana Paolucci’s – a then bright eyed young fashion graduate – dream to bring the crème of international fashion design to our corner of the world, was an exciting first for the Perth fashion scene. Never before were Perth residents given the opportunity to sample the extravagant and avant-garde masterpieces of designers the likes of Vivienne Westwood and Ann Demeulemeester.
However, the new look of this iconic boutique accompanies a slight shift in direction towards more ‘accessible’ labels such as Rick Owens, Acne and Giuseppe Zanotti. This is a quick-witted move with the times. In this day and age of changing consumer trends and a stagnating retail industry, fashion houses are increasingly offering more affordable price points and wearable products which are more relevant to everyday. Dilettante’s new outlook of inclusivity will undoubtedly inspire a new generation of – well – dilettantes.
Dilettante currently stocks brands including Maticevski, Marni, Issey Miyake, Dion Lee, Josh Goot, Preen and Helmut Lang (Givenchy soon). When you have the chance, definitely check it out at 575 Wellington Street, Perth.
