My top strategies on creating effortless, low maintenance style
Wearing: Oversized Knit – Hello Parry | Leather Pants – Casey Tanswell | Givenchy Antigona Bag | Strappy Mid Heel Shoes – ASOS
Let’s first make one thing clear. The alternative to the one hour (or more?!) morning prep session is not resigning to leaving the house as Alan Garner from the Hangover. Laziness being the spur of ingenuity, low maintenance style means being able to look amazing, effortlessly. Here are my top strategies.
The lougewear/daywear blur
Loungewear that doubles as daywear, and vice versa, takes just another step out of your prep. Take this Hello Parry oversized knit, for example. I swapped out my daggy pajama pants with these perfect Casey Tanswell leather pants and I was out the door in 60 seconds or less (give or take 2 minutes to check Instagram one more time).
An effective capsule wardrobe
Having a capsule wardrobe makes morning dressing a breeze. More on that here.
The second day hair
A veritable pillar of a low maintenance style is undoubtedly low maintenance hair. Luckily for us, the second day messy hair is in vogue right now, but in my opinion it’s always been a classic. My tip is to (and this might sound absolutely insane) wash your hair the night before, let dry and sleep right in it. The next day, haphazardly apply some texturising/volumising wax (my favourite is Living Proof ‘amp’ Instant Texture Volumizer).
Minimal makeup
A little makeup might be all you need. Consider refining your makeup routine to just the key things which make the biggest difference. For me, these are a natural looking foundation (my choice is Ellis Faas Skin Vail), subtle blush (Nars ‘Orgasm’), an eyebrow palette (definitely Benefit Eyebrow Zings), and a nude lippy.
A few special accessories
You can afford to keep the rest of your outfit as plain and as basic as you like when you have those few go-to accessories that basically make the outfit. They don’t have to make a huge statement to pull your outfit together, but they should always be very you. Mine are definitely my handbags. What are yours?

Such a gorgeous, effortless look yet it looks edgy and put together. I’ve always know to have a few staple pieces but never thought to put them together in a hurry like this. Super helpful – thanks! 🙂

Love your tips! The third tip though… I look like a lion when I wake up in the mornings. Need to find a way to tame my hair without actually washing it. And those leather pants are to die for.
