Creating a weekend to work wardrobe with versatile pieces that go both ways
Wearing: Jacket – Wish | Leather Bralette & Cropped Pants – May the Label | Trio Bag – Celine (Similar) | Marble Double Pearl Earrings – Hello Parry
As unmanageable as maintaining completely separate weekend and work wardrobes might seem, this is sadly a predicament for most nine-to-fivers, like yours truly, for whom corporate dress codes strictly preclude the boyfriend jean and slouchy sweater off-duty uniform. However, while some pieces are destined to reside in one world or the other, there’s so much potential for synergies in your weekend and work wardrobes, which will save you both money and storage space. It starts from choosing pieces which are not just adaptable for both corporate and casual realms, but can elevate both your weekend and work outfits.
Simple designs and relaxed tailoring
Crisp tailoring is not the only thing that you can wear to the office. What we are looking for are clean and simple designs in quality fabrics; pieces that hit the sweet spot between tailored and relaxed – these are the kinds that are the most versatile for dressing both up and down. Think collarless blazers, which have a relaxed vibe, and tailored wide legged pants in slinky fabrics, which can be an indispensable work separate that can also go on vacay with you.
Neutral tones go both ways
As a general rule, neutral tones are always acceptable for the office, making many ostensibly casual clothes potentially office appropriate. However, while black may immediately come to mind as the world’s most versatile colour, it tends to set a decidedly ‘corporate’ tone in tailored pieces, so I would steer clear if you want to bridge the work-play divide.
The Occasion Defining Separates
Once you have some versatile staples that go both ways, all you need is to add those distinctly casual or corporate pieces to redefine the outfit for work or play. For the casual incarnation of this outfit, I’ve juxtaposed leather with tailoring to create something a little edgy, but swap this leather top with a crisp white shirt and this outfit is instantly office-ready.
