Off-Shoulder Tops – who’s wearing them, how to rock them, and where to buy them
If you ever thought the shoulder was simply the innocuous top segment of the arm, fashion history surely proves that it is anything but, but is the very epitome of femininity and sex appeal – from the billowing off-shoulder gowns of the 1800’s to the flower child tunics of the 1970’s. So it’s no wonder the off-shoulder top has its little moment every season, and is, contrary to what you might think, a true classic.
The off-shoulder top, much like the flared jean, has been a simmering trend, on the verge of breaking through for the past couple of years. However 2015 saw it make a big splash, thanks to the Tibi off-shoulder tunic that had become a recurring theme among fashion week frequenters last year. And now is perhaps more than ever, the golden age of the off-shoulder top, with all our favourite brands offering a wide range of sexy-cool cuts and styles, and all our favourite bloggers wearing these with anything and everything.
How to wear off-shoulder tops:
When one thinks of the classic off-shoulder top, it might bring to mind a lace trimmed floaty number, reminiscent of the 70’s. While this certainly is still one of our favourite ways to rock this trend, the off-shoulder top of 2016 is perhaps a more grown up, semi-tailored incarnation, with all the attention reserved for the sleeve (like the signature bell sleeve from Ellery).
Of course, such off-duty staples as the mini-skirt and vintage jeans are practically made for the off-shoulder top – topped off with lace up espadrilles or some classic strappy heels for high summer. And the opportunity has also arisen to elevate this ordinarily weekender style into the smart casual, and even, evening, realms, by pairing it with slim fitting trousers or a figure hugging skirt.

what a great trend for summertime – even if I can not imagine to wear off-shoulder right now because of the super cold weather here in Switzerland 🙂
