The extraordinary luxury hotel experience I’ve been dying to share: Como the Treasury, Perth’s new 6 star hotel
Growing up, travel was via crowded overnight steam trains, food was always brought from home, and hotels, well, I’d never even heard of those (now that I think about it, China, pre-economic-boom, bore a striking resemblance to Oliver Twist’s 1800’s England). As much as that life seems quite adventurous now, our standard for contentment scales with experience, and each new indulgence inevitably throws previous delights into contrast. These days, the discourse on travel is incomplete without the word ‘luxe’. Travel is not just a question of locality, but of identity; a metamorphosis from corporate integer to mysterious stranger; from unentitled civilian to aristocrat pretender. Therefore, the choice of a luxury hotel is just about everything.
So no wonder those who wield the Tripadvisor App has the power. I cannot imagine the apprehension of establishing an new hotel, especially one that reaches for the soaring ideals of a six star, which Como the Treasury had done just so. Launched under the banner of the famous Como Hotels and Resorts brand, it is the first of its kind in my little coastal city of Perth (and in many ways, in all of Australia).
We visited Como the Treasury within its first few months of its opening, and I can report that, quite contrary to there being a sign of growing pains, it was the most pleasurable and extraordinary hotel experience of mine so far. For what is needless to be said, I defer to the glowing reviews from fellow guests. For my part, I must give special mention to that memorable first impression of the State Building’s lovingly restored, majestic stone decade, the inspiring modern classic interiors at every turn, and in the guest rooms, the generous custom made king size beds, and the luxurious freestanding bathtubs that adjoin romantic stone balconies. But it’s the decidedly 6 star service that is truly Como the Treasury’s most shining achievement. Each guest is made to feel as though they are the most important person to walk through the doors. Hotel staff, who found no behest too frivolous and left no detail unattended to, would chase us down the halls to carry out the requests we didn’t even remember we’d made.
In addition to Como the Teasury’s own restaurants, Wildflower and Post, and the signature Como Shambhala Urban Escape spa, State Buildings is in itself a vibrant hub of restaurants, retail spaces and events, worthy of a full afternoon’s exploring.
Now let me take you on a visual tour. Photographed here are the ‘Heritage Balcony Room’ and the ‘Como Suite’, and Petition Kitchen at State Buildings.
Room rates start from AUD$585. Find the best price for Como the Treasury.
